Fortem
The control plane for AWS ECS Fargate fleets
The story
Overview
Fortem is a control plane designed for engineering teams running multiple AWS ECS Fargate environments. It provides a unified dashboard to view, schedule, and monitor all environments across regions and AWS accounts, eliminating the need to check multiple consoles. The platform cuts dev and staging costs by 60-70% through intelligent scheduling that runs environments only during business hours, and includes AI Ops features that automatically detect idle resources, diagnose failing tasks, and propose fixes within seconds. Fortem integrates directly into your AWS account without touching your infrastructure code, works with existing Terraform or CDK setups, and gives developers self-service access to restart services and view logs while maintaining security through role-based access control. The product is built for teams where per-service pricing becomes prohibitive and manual environment management becomes unscalable, typically around 15+ environments burning over $5k/month.
Key features
Unified Fleet View
Monitor all ECS environments, services, databases, and CI/CD branches from a single dashboard across regions and AWS accounts.
Environment Scheduling
Automatically start and stop dev/staging environments on a schedule by timezone, reducing idle compute costs by 60-70%.
AI Ops Diagnostics
Automatically detect failing tasks, idle resources, and propose fixes with median 8-second response time for issue diagnosis.
Developer Self-Service
Allow developers to restart services, redeploy, and view logs for their environments with role-based access control.
Cost Visibility
See exact monthly costs per environment and identify which environments are burning budget without active use.
Read-Only Fleet Audit
Run a 15-minute audit that maps every ECS environment, calculates pricing, and identifies idle spend without leaving your machine.
Use cases
- 1
Cost Optimization
Teams paying for idle dev and staging environments can cut costs by 60-70% through automated scheduling without modifying infrastructure code.
- 2
Developer Self-Service
Platform engineers can grant developers scoped access to restart services and redeploy without handling every request.
- 3
Incident Response
Engineering teams can diagnose failing ECS tasks in seconds instead of minutes by automatically analyzing CloudWatch logs and IAM permissions.
- 4
Multi-Environment Management
Organizations with 15+ ECS Fargate environments can consolidate visibility and management into one screen instead of checking multiple consoles.
FAQ
How much does Fortem cost?
Fortem starts at $790/month for up to 20 environments. Pricing is per-environment, not per-service. The Scale plan is $2,490/month for up to 80 environments. Early-stage startups get 90% off Scale at $249/month with annual commitment.
Does Fortem replace Terraform?
No. Fortem works with your existing Terraform, CDK, or other infrastructure code. It reads your tags and integrates without requiring you to rewrite your IaC.
Does Fortem have access to my data?
No. Fortem runs inside your AWS account and never touches your workloads, secrets, or data. Secrets stay in your KMS, and Fortem only stores metadata like service names and schedule configs.
How long until Fortem is running against our AWS?
The Fleet Audit takes 15 minutes and is read-only. Full setup with managed onboarding by a Fortem engineer is typically 30 minutes to start seeing results.
Do you support EKS or Kubernetes?
Fortem is currently built for AWS ECS Fargate. EKS and Kubernetes support is not mentioned in the current product offering.
