Gigai Chronicle

Git records changes. Chronicle records what was asked.

Developer ToolsLaunched Oct 2026

The story

Gigai Chronicle is the memory and intelligence layer for AI-assisted software development. Capture AI coding sessions, prompts, responses, tool runs, file changes, and Git activity in one searchable timeline. Understand why code changed, replay sessions, inspect agent activity, preserve project memory, prepare AI context, create handoffs, and surface risks, unfinished work, and technical debt. Local-first, model-free, open source, and built to keep your development history with your code.

Overview

Git answers what changed. It has never answered what was asked.

As AI writes more of your code, that second history — the prompts, the attempts, the reasoning, the things you rejected — is scattered across tool-specific log files or thrown away. Chronicle keeps it: an append-only, plain-text record of your AI-assisted development, inside your own repo, that travels by git clone like everything else.

No account. No server. No network. It never calls a model.

Key features

Project Memory

Decisions, constraints, known issues, failed approaches — derived from history, each traceable to its source. chronicle memory rebuild / list / verify

AI Continuity

Any AI (Claude, Codex, Gemini, Cursor…) continues where the last stopped. chronicle bootstrap / project context / continue / handoff

chronicle preflight "<task>"

Before you code: risks, contradictions, previous attempts, a verdict

chronicle why-not <file>

Negative knowledge — what not to change, and why

chronicle risk <file>

An explainable risk score — every point a named signal

chronicle health · onboarding-test

Project health · can a new AI understand this project?

Use cases

  • 1

"Why is this file like this?"

Right-click any file for the prompt behind each change — the answer, in the editor.

  • 2

    Replay a session

Code review with the intent attached — prompts, responses and commits, in order.

  • 3

    Sessions sidebar

Every AI session at a glance, with provider and model badges.

  • 4

    Prompt version history

Your saved prompts as a git-style graph, with diffs in the native diff editor.

  • 5

    One-click restore

Jump back to how the code was at any prompt, straight from the timeline.

  • 6

    Copy context pack

Right-click a file to brief your AI tool with everything already asked and decided.

  • 7

Dashboard: Commits, Files & Settings New

A session's Commits and Files tabs sourced from your real git history — timed to the session, never fabricated — plus a read-only Settings page showing your capture config and privacy posture.

FAQ

Does Gigai Chronicle send my prompts anywhere?

No. Chronicle is zero network by default — it never calls a model, never phones home, and never stores your file contents. Run chronicle doctor any time to print a zero-egress proof.

Does it change my git history?

No — except two sanctioned opt-in/opt-out writes that it is explicit about.

Which AI tools does it support?

Claude Code live capture and Codex import work today; Gemini and Cursor are on the roadmap.

Is Gigai Chronicle free?

Yes. Gigai Chronicle is free and open source under the MIT license.
